Crepe Lasagna History of New Smyrna Beach
Sounds like an unusual food item from a restaurant that is now D’Amore’s Ristorante. Having lived beachside for many years, my daughter and I knew all the great places to eat, including Italian food. On a Friday night the locals knew about the best lasagna at the Atlantis Bistro on Flagler Avenue. It did not appear on the menu, but the crepe lasagna history of New Smyrna Beach is an interesting story.
I never thought about the word crepe at the time when we enjoyed it at least one Friday night a month. It wasn’t until doing the research for this article that a reviewer on Yelp called it “crepe lasagna”. Now it is a regular menu item.
In my entire life have I ever seen such thin pasta layers used for lasagna. The crazy part was they didn’t fall apart either. Some Fridays it was made with beef and other times Italian sausage. The staff would kid sometimes and say, “she only made one pan tonight”. You definitely needed to arrive early to get a piece.

Given that it was only made on Friday nights, as a special prepared by the owner / chef, it always sold out quickly. It almost reminded me in a funny kind of way like the Soup Nazi episode from Seinfeld as to how special it was.
One Trip Advisor reviewer wrote in May 2020:
Best lasagna EVER!!!
“This place is so good. Chef/owner is from Italy and she is amazing. Lasagna is unbelievable. My BF loves the sausage with peppers and onions. You will feel like you have had your yearly fix of comfort food. Small and quaint. Love this place. Take a look at the ceiling. Very cool.“
The history of 300 Flagler Avenue, as most of the electronic property records in Volusia County, picks up around 1989. The Atlantis Bistro opened in 2008 after the property was acquired in 2006. And for all those years, Friday nights were special there.
The property was sold in May 2022 and in 2023 Atlantis became D’Amore’s.
The great news about this story is that little piece of culinary history lives on as a regular menu item today. Sometimes good things do last.
